In general, Colorado is not known for its boardwalks, but when you do happen to find one, the result is magic (a la Grand Lake). While we do have a few charming boardwalks here and there, there is none quite as scenic as the Gazebo Boardwalk, which is attached to the Niedrach Nature Trail and its out-of-this-world views:
Located near Commerce City inside of Barr Lake State Park, the Niedrach Nature Trail is a 3.4-mile out-and-back trail that - despite being near Denver - will make you feel like you're a million miles from it all.
Used for hiking, biking, and walking, the Niedrach Nature Trail is a great place to look for local wildlife, as it houses more than 350 native migratory birds like bald and golden eagles, white pelicans, and great blue herons.
In addition to birds, the area is also home to other species of wildlife like mule and white-tail deer, badgers, and coyotes.
While the wildlife portion alone brings people to the trail, one of the most beloved aspects of the hike is the Gazebo Boardwalk, which spans from the dirt path to the middle of beautiful Barr Lake.
Do you want to stay on the boardwalk forever? While the gazebo portion is somewhat short, there are other stretches of boardwalk along the trail that are sure to give you your fix!
The Niedrach Nature Trail and Gazebo Boardwalk is open year-round and - due to the fact that there is no elevation gain - is classified as being an easy hike.
Address: 13401 Picadilly Road, Brighton, CO 80603
