When most people think of Colorado, they think of the mountains and sunshine, not realizing there is a much darker and more sinister side to the Centennial State. Now that you know this about Colorado, you will want to heed this warning and avoid driving through this haunted town alone or at night:
Welcome to Florence, the antique capital of Colorado that is also teeming with the paranormal.
Built and established as a transportation center for three railroads, Florence has a long and colorful history in Colorado, so much so that many deceased residents can still be "seen" (and sensed) around town.
Like many historical Colorado towns, many of Florence's original buildings remain, with many patrons still allegedly hanging around after they have passed.
When you're walking down the streets of Florence or are visiting one of the older buildings, keep your eyes and ears peeled, as you may see (or hear) the ghosts of such figures as Miss Bea (the former lady of the house at the now Blue Spruce Antiques), the spirits attached to the bar stools from the old Oasis Bar, and Sam (who committed suicide on the second floor of the Elks Lodge).
Not only have ordinary folks experienced the paranormal around Florence, but so have ghost hunters who have scoured the town and confirmed the hauntings.
Do you need another reason to steer clear of this allegedly spooky town? Florence is also home to the notorious ADX Florence maximum security prison, which has housed the likes of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (the Boston Marathon bomber), Ted "The Unabomber" Kaczynski, and countless domestic and foreign terrorists.
