No matter what time of year it is, there is no shortage of places to see and enjoy around the Centennial State! For one spectacular sight that you will want to see in every season, visit Colorado’s Yampa River Canyon, AKA the most spectacular river canyon in the country:
Located just downstream from the town of Craig, the Yampa River Canyon is a large and stunning landscape that is unlike anything else you have seen in Colorado.
Spanning 32 miles of the Yampa River, the Yampa River Canyon features something fun for everyone in the family, including floating, hiking, photo opportunities, ample wildlife sightings, and much more.
Also known as Duffy Canyon, the Yampa River Canyon has just recently gained more popularity due to five new revamped and re-utilized campsites, which makes it easier to both explore and enjoy the area.
Are you interest in camping in the Yampa River Canyon (which includes easy access to the river, plus a fire ring and grilling grate at each site)? To learn more - or to reserve your spot - please call Colorado Parks and Wildlife at (800) 244-5613 or visit their website.
In addition to the world-class recreational opportunities and jaw-dropping landscape, the Yampa River Canyon is home to history galore, as the Fremont culture is said to have inhabited the area starting in 800 AD, followed by the White River Ute Native Americans and the Yamparika (or Yapudttka Utes).
When you visit the area today, be sure to keep your eyes peeled, as the Little Yampa Canyon is now home to Native American petroglyphs, including some 300 that were created along the canyon by just the early Fremont culture.
