♫Fall time and the livin’ is easy♫ Right? Well, yes and no. The leaves may be extraordinary colors, but we have still had to deal with abnormally high temperatures, followed by freezing cold and snow. Despite this, however, it is still an incredible season, and Coloradans have invented new ways of celebrating, including these seven timeless fall traditions:
1. Sticking with our men no matter what.
Is it easy? Heck no (I mean we lost to both the Bears AND Jags? C'mon, Von!). However, we know the importance of sticking by our guys and will do so through good and bad.
2. Roasting Pueblo chiles.
Chiles roasting on an open fire... am I full of clever song adaptations or what? While the smell of fallen leaves is intoxicating, the scent of delicious Pueblo chiles may just be even more iconic!
3. Drive up (or down) the mountain to hear the elks bugle.
When it comes to Colorado wildlife, elk may just be one of the most well-known and loved but until you have flocked to Rocky Mountain National Park to listen to their bugle, you have yet to pay them homage.
4. Lose friends by taking them to one of the best haunted houses in America.
Whether or not your friend is a fan of having the living daylights scared out of them, it is a fall-time rite-of-passage to partake in the
13th Floor Haunted House , which USA Today called one of the "Top 5 Most Terrifying Haunted Houses in the U.S.A." Do you want to cement your newly broken friendship? Then you will also want to take them to the 13th Floor's Blackout, which makes you sign a waiver before you enter.
5. Sit in a pool while there's a blizzard.
I'm not just talking about any pool, folks (what do you think we are? Penguins?), but rather the Glenwood Hot Springs, which is open year-round and infused with warm mineral water.
6. Adding various fall flavors to your beer.
Who says that your beer has to taste like hops? Thanks to our hundreds of local breweries, we can sample all kinds of different fall-inspired brews, including pumpkin, Oktoberfest, apple, and more.
7. Race a coffin around town.
What? Isn't racing coffins a thing in your state? Fortunately for Coloradans, it is here and can be experienced at the
Emma Crawford Coffin Races ; an annual Manitou Springs tradition that pays homage to that time a coffin containing Emma Crawford's remains slid down the side of the mountain. (The 2019 Emma Crawford Coffin Races take place Saturday, October 26th in downtown Manitou.)
