I am a nature lover and self-proclaimed foodie wrapped in one package. In my previous life, I was an Accountant, but numbers were boring and writing is the only thing that fuels my soul. So, I write because it's my freedom...it brings me joy. When I'm not writing dope articles for OnlyInYourState, I am writing and editing articles for my online blog on Medium.com. Or, when I get the chance, I am off on a trip with my family chasing waterfalls, or simply exploring the great outdoors. My mantra is to always find the best part of every day and bask in it.
By far, Arkansas is the most beautiful state in the Ozarks. This means there are tons of hidden gems tucked inside our many mountain ranges, river valleys, and plateaus. These lesser-known gems are our best kept secrets, and many of them take us on whimsical journeys. One such gem is the Lee Creek Reservoir Recreational Area. It is sprinkled with mysterious rock formations, whimsical trees, spectacular waterfalls, and maybe a monster or two. If you love enchanting outdoor adventures, Lee Creek is the place for you.
Tucked away on the banks of the Arkansas River near Van Buren are the Lee Creek Reservoir Trails.
This 3-mile loop trail has beautiful creeks and streams, but it also has a bit of mystery. The trees along this trail are telling their own magical stories. From their exposed roots all the way to the mysterious treetops, these trees might be trapped in a spell. This trail is a must-see just to glimpse these mystical trees.
Inside the 1.3-mile Cemetery Loop trail you will find an old homestead and cemetery with grave markers dating back over 100 years. Perhaps a bit spooky, so enter at your own risk. But the reward at the end of this trail is truly magical. It is an enchanting view overlooking the reservoir. Though a bit spooky, this trail is worth the hike.
At 1.2 miles, this is the shortest and the easiest of the trails, but it leads to this spectacular bluff overlooking the vast reservoir. But are there mysterious or magical creatures below? Who knows, the kraken might be lurking around in that water.
From the beautiful waterfalls to the flowing creeks to the serene water hole, this 1.5-mile Crack in the Rock loop is breathtaking. But what makes this trail truly magical is the 20-feet-deep crack inside a massive sandstone rock. This mysterious crack is definitely hiding something, so hop in and explore for yourself.
Are you convinced that something is lurking inside Lee Creek? Whether it is a mysterious monster or whimsical trees, you must take these hikes to see what you can discover.
