I am a nature lover and self-proclaimed foodie wrapped in one package. In my previous life, I was an Accountant, but numbers were boring and writing is the only thing that fuels my soul. So, I write because it's my freedom...it brings me joy. When I'm not writing dope articles for OnlyInYourState, I am writing and editing articles for my online blog on Medium.com. Or, when I get the chance, I am off on a trip with my family chasing waterfalls, or simply exploring the great outdoors. My mantra is to always find the best part of every day and bask in it.
Have you ever found yourself searching for fun activities to keep the kids entertained for an entire day? Yes, there might be plenty of parks in Arkansas that offer a wide variety of adventures. But there is one nature center in Fort Smith that is jam packed with lots to do, and the best part is…IT’S FREE. This makes it a great place for a fun-filled family outing.
Located on Wells Lake Road in Fort Smith is the Janet Huckabee Arkansas River Valley Nature Center.
This FREE nature center has a variety of activities for the entire family. There are various exhibits and displays that the kids can explore and learn about local wildlife.
This means after you’ve done exploring the center, you can step outside for a whole other adventure at the lake.
Wells Lake is an 11-acre lake popular for anglers in the Arkansas River Valley. It’s known for catfish, largemouth Bass, Rainbow Trout, Bluegill, and more.
And there are various competitions and learning opportunities throughout the year.
While fishing is popular on the lake, you can also enjoy kayaking or canoeing. The nature center along with the outdoor recreational activities are a two-part family outing that you will love.
