I am a nature lover and self-proclaimed foodie wrapped in one package. In my previous life, I was an Accountant, but numbers were boring and writing is the only thing that fuels my soul. So, I write because it's my freedom...it brings me joy. When I'm not writing dope articles for OnlyInYourState, I am writing and editing articles for my online blog on Medium.com. Or, when I get the chance, I am off on a trip with my family chasing waterfalls, or simply exploring the great outdoors. My mantra is to always find the best part of every day and bask in it.
We all have our favorite small towns in Arkansas, right? They are the off-the-beaten-path places where we love to frequent when we want to escape the hum and buzz of daily life. The towns that are both charming and historic and are time capsules preserving the rich culture and heritage of our beloved state. That’s what you can expect when you visit the small town of Des Arc. This quaint town in Arkansas seems to be frozen in time, and you’ll want to step into this time capsule and be delighted at every single turn.
Established in 1854, Des Arc was a transportation hub for early settlers along the White River. And it’s one of the oldest river ports in Arkansas.
Delightful and historic, with a population of just under 2,000 residents, it's guaranteed to have all that we love about our quintessential small towns.
Its location along the White River makes the town attractive for anglers who enjoy year-round fishing. The river also serves as a place for families and visitors to relax and enjoy the scenic views.
With almost 10 listings on the National Register of Historic Places, history buffs will enjoy strolling through the town marveling at all the historical buildings.
And you'll also be delighted to know that the smallest state park is in Des Arc. The Lower White River Museum State Park is literally frozen in time and filled with artifacts of an era long ago.
Like most small towns in Arkansas, you can always find a great restaurant to grab a delicious meal. And we recommend going to Dondie's White River Princess.
Tucked along the shores of the White River, this historical restaurant is known for having some of the best catfish in the state.
For some outdoor fun, the Riverfront Park features a pavilion, picnic tables and scenic views. Other parks offer walking trails as well as playgrounds for the kids.
Throughout the year, the town hosts festivals and various events. Perhaps the most known is the Steamboat Days Festival that celebrates the heritage of the small river town.
