I am a nature lover and self-proclaimed foodie wrapped in one package. In my previous life, I was an Accountant, but numbers were boring and writing is the only thing that fuels my soul. So, I write because it's my freedom...it brings me joy. When I'm not writing dope articles for OnlyInYourState, I am writing and editing articles for my online blog on Medium.com. Or, when I get the chance, I am off on a trip with my family chasing waterfalls, or simply exploring the great outdoors. My mantra is to always find the best part of every day and bask in it.
Do you remember the eclipse in Arkansas in 2017? Well, if you do, there’s another one in a few months that’s even more spectacular. On April 8, 2024, we will be in the path of totality of the Great North American Eclipse. This means that Arkansas is a hotspot to witness this rare phenomenon. Here’s everything you need to know about the total solar eclipse 2024 Arkansas. It’s a once in a lifetime show you don’t want to miss!
Mark your calendars and get ready for the biggest event happening this Spring! Arkansas will be in the path of totality for the Great North American Eclipse.
Beginning on Monday April 8 at approximately 12:27 p.m. CDT, the entire state will witness this rare phenomenon. But for the best experience, you'll want to be in the path of totality.
So, what's this path of totality? It's the path in which the eclipse will travel, where you can witness its maximum effects. For Arkansas, the path runs through the center of the state - from southwest to the northeast region...
...and totality will occur at approximately 1:45 p.m. CDT with the moon's shadow making its final exit at around 2:00 p.m. CDT.

During a total solar eclipse, the moon aligns with the sun blocking out its light for about 4 to 5 minutes. At that point (totality), you'll be able to witness the sun's corona that's expected to be quite spectacular. ISO-rated safety glasses are required to view the eclipse.
If you are in the line of totality, then you can safely remove your glasses once the moon completely blocks the sun. Before and after that point, your glasses are needed to protect your eyes. Safety first!
So, where can you watch this grand event? Luckily, most of Arkansas is in the direct path of the eclipse, however, the best place to watch the show is at one of our state parks.
Cossatot River State Park, Ozark Folk Center State Park, and Petit Jean State Park are 3 of the best seats in the house. They're the closest to the line of totality that you'll get.
You can't go wrong with Mount Magazine or Mount Nebo, as they're in the path as well. In fact, more than half of the state parks will be in the line of totality. So, be sure to check the Arkansas State Park website for the starting times.
If you want to skip the state parks, you can watch the show from a local town. Lyons College in Batesville will be hosting a watch party. Also, towns like Clinton, Heber Springs, Mountain View, Cherokee Village, and Hardy are in the path of totality as well.
Head to Searcy, Russellville, Little Rock, or Hot Springs for festive events leading up to the day of the eclipse.
You don't want to miss the total solar eclipse 2024 Arkansas, as the next solar eclipse that we will witness is in 2045. Remember to wear your safety glasses, as well as check the weather, and have a backup plan just in case a location isn't ideal.
Aside from that, here's an eclipse countdown clock for you to keep track of the big event, and get ready to enjoy an incredible show here in Arkansas!
