I am a nature lover and self-proclaimed foodie wrapped in one package. In my previous life, I was an Accountant, but numbers were boring and writing is the only thing that fuels my soul. So, I write because it's my freedom...it brings me joy. When I'm not writing dope articles for OnlyInYourState, I am writing and editing articles for my online blog on Medium.com. Or, when I get the chance, I am off on a trip with my family chasing waterfalls, or simply exploring the great outdoors. My mantra is to always find the best part of every day and bask in it.
On my quest to explore small towns in Arkansas, I came across one that was too good to be true. That town is Pottsville in Pope County. With its old-world charm, local community events as well as its rich history, this town is nostalgic and irresistibly charming. One visit and you’ll agree that it’s a time capsule preserving what we love about Arkansas’ heritage. Come with me to explore this charming small town in Arkansas.
Tucked between the foothills of the Ozarks and the Arkansas River Valley, just outside Russellville is the tiny town of Pottsville Arkansas. It is known for being one of the safest towns in our state, so there's no doubt that this small town is one that you'll want to visit.

Established in 1897, the town was a hub for the thriving Butterfield Stagecoach route that passed through Arkansas. So, in its early days, the town became a popular rest stop for folks traveling through the area. Additionally, the original town square still stands, and it is as quaint as can be, with only a few brick buildings that serve as a reminder of an era long gone.
Surrounded by the Arkansas River to the south as well as other lakes and creeks, many days are spent catching fish on the shores or cooling off in one of the waterways. Of course, this is what childhood dreams are made of in Arkansas.
One thing you should know about Pottsville is that it has a great sense of community. With approximately 3,000 residents, the town takes pride in providing a safe and comfortable place for all its residents.
During the year, there are festivals where folks gather to remember yesteryears. You'll experience true small-town charm at these events. One of which is the Butterfield Days that is celebrated annually in September.
The event is held at the Potts Inn, which is a historic home that was built by the founder of the town and now serves as a museum preserving its rich history. Moreover, the museum showcases log cabins, antique collections along with Indian artifacts, so I would recommend scheduling a tour.

Other events and activities throughout the year include fall festivals, holiday celebrations, as well as a local farmers market. Truth be told, Pottsville has everything we love about small-town living in Arkansas.

If you grab a bite to eat in town, you may run into vintage cars in the parking lot of a local restaurant. Surely, this will trigger some nostalgic memories for you.
