J.B. Weisenfels has lived in rural Arkansas for three decades. She is a writer, a mom, and a graduate student. She is also an avid collector of tacky fish whatnots, slightly chipped teapots, and other old things. In her spare time she enjoys driving to the nearest creek to sit a while. If you were to visit her, she'd try to feed you cornbread.
There are a few things you’re going to love about the subject of today’s article: it’s tiny, it’s hidden away in a neighborhood and the food is absolutely delicious. I’m talking about H.B.’s Bar-B-Q. From the outside it doesn’t look like much, but the flavor of the slow roasted meat and delicious barbecue sauce waiting inside is huge.
You might think you’re lost while you’re on the way to H.B.’s Bar-B-Q. The restaurant is in a residential neighborhood away from most of the other eateries in Arkansas’s largest city. They’ve been in that neighborhood since 1961.
When you pull up to the building after your adventure trying to find it, you’ll notice the restaurant is small. It isn’t slick and corporate, it’s just a little building.
Of course, you can’t stick around in the competitive Little Rock barbecue scene without some fantastic barbecue, and H.B.’s delivers on that point too.
H.B.’s has become a favorite of locals and out-of-towners alike. It’s a small, off-the-beaten-path barbecue joint that certainly deserves your attention.
