I am a nature lover and self-proclaimed foodie wrapped in one package. In my previous life, I was an Accountant, but numbers were boring and writing is the only thing that fuels my soul. So, I write because it's my freedom...it brings me joy. When I'm not writing dope articles for OnlyInYourState, I am writing and editing articles for my online blog on Medium.com. Or, when I get the chance, I am off on a trip with my family chasing waterfalls, or simply exploring the great outdoors. My mantra is to always find the best part of every day and bask in it.
In Arkansas, winter has a mind of its own. Some years, Jack Frost brings a lot of snow, while others, he barely makes an appearance. Of course, our favorite part of the season is to see the towns come alive under a blanket of snow. And for folks who enjoy the magic of winter, here are a few enchanting winter towns in Arkansas that transform into a whimsical snow globe after a good snowfall.
Winter activities are abundant in the town of Bella Vista. Tucked away in the snowiest region of Arkansas, there are tons of cold weather adventures that await. After a good snowfall, this winter town is great for sledding, bike riding, chasing frozen waterfalls, and more. Or venture into the enchanting Ozark woodlands to discover the hidden gems that dwell within.
The Ozark magic continues in the town of Compton. With less than 500 residents, this town is a great destination for a peaceful escape. It's especially magical during the snowy season, where you'll be delighted with enchanting scenes of snow-covered woodlands and frozen waterfalls. Winter splendor gets no better than this!
Some folks love to hibernate during the winter. And if you prefer cozying up indoors while watching the snowfall, then Ponca is the town for you. Rent a cabin from the Buffalo Outdoor Center and spend your days watching the local wildlife frolic in the snow. And end your evenings by the fireplace with a cup of cocoa. This sounds like a perfect winter day to me!
Bring your camera to Heber Springs to capture some of the prettiest winter scenes in Arkansas. From witnessing ice crystals forming around a waterfall to seeing swans descend on a scenic lake, you'll enjoy all that this town has to offer. Visit the charming country stores for some unique items to winterize your home. Or book a stay at the Red Apple Inn and be engulfed with natural winter splendor.
The snowiest town in Arkansas is a must visit! Located in NWA, Gravette sees around 10 inches of snow each year. Bring your mountain bike to explore the nearby snow-covered hiking trails. Better yet, plan a horseback tour for a winter adventure unlike any other. Or book a stay at a local campground and wake up to snow covered Ozark landscapes in the mornings. There is no wrong way to enjoy this enchanting winter town.
We believe that Paris is the most romantic town in Arkansas, so it's a great year-round destination for you and that special someone. However, after a snowfall, head to the mountains and experience a true winter wonderland. Located just south of town is Mount Magazine State Park and it is one of the prettiest state parks during the colder season. Book a stay at the lodge and marvel at the most breathtaking winter views from atop the mountain.
As one of the most whimsical towns in Arkansas, Eureka Springs is great no matter the time of year. But the town does come alive in a special way during the winter months. You'll agree that the snow adds more charm to the historic downtown district. So, this winter, plan a trip and be sure to stroll down Main Street and browse at all the pretty little storefronts covered with snow.
