Though long abandoned, the historic homestead is filled with remnants from the past. Even better, the site can be easily explored, thanks to a trail that winds right through it.
Located near Ponca, Hedges Homestead is the former home of Margaret and Harold Hedges.
You might even recognize their name, as the well-known landmark, Hedges Pouroff, bears it.

In 1991, the Hedges moved from the area and donated their land to the parks service. It’s since been transformed into an informative trail known as the Hedges Homestead Trail.
As you meander along, you’ll come across the ruins of old buildings, a rundown cemetery from the 1800s, and dilapidated school site, just to name a few.
In addition to expansive vistas of the Buffalo River, you’ll encounter a pristine pond, boulder-filled creek, and Hedges Hole, an old-fashioned swimming hole.
