Weekend stays at Devil’s Den and Mt. Magazine are time-honored Arkansas traditions, but it can be hard to relax when you’re surrounded by camping neighbors. Today’s campgrounds may not be completely secluded but they certainly offer a quiet retreat in the middle of Arkansas’ stunning beauty. Here are some remote Arkansas campgrounds for your next getaway:
1. Steel Creek Campground - Compton
Steele Creek Road, Steele Creek Rd, Arkansas, USA
There's no way to not be relaxed while floating along the Buffalo National River. Stay under the stars at Arkansas' first Dark Sky Park by pitching your tent at the Steel Creek Campground. This campground is much smaller than the Buffalo Point Campground since it only has 26 sites. There are also 14 sites for campers with horses/stock animals (six people and four stock animals allowed per site).
2. Carver Campground - Western Grove
Arkansas 123, AR-123, Western Grove, AR, USA
If you're needing another night along the Buffalo, then take your tent to Carver. This little campground only has eight sites, making it perfect for someone wanting a quiet night before setting off for another float. Water and vaulted toilets are available, but otherwise this is a primitive campground. Carver is a first come, first serve campground in the upper district of the park. It has 8 tent-only sites with potable water, but no electrical amenities. A vault restroom is available. This is a pack in/pack out facility with no trash service.

3. White Rock Mountain Recreation Area - Winslow

We've stayed at the river, now let's head up to the mountains! Instead of packing in at Mount Magazine, head to White Rock for a secluded night on the mountain. White Rock Recreation Area is a stunning gem in the Ozark National Forest. Stay in one of the area's cabins or at the lodge; or, pitch your tent for a more authentic camping experience. These easily accessible, shaded campsites include tent pads, fire rings, grills, picnic tables and access to restrooms and water. Small RVs or pop-up campers can be accommodated at a few sites.

6. Haw Creek Falls Recreation Area - Hagarville
Haw Creek Falls Recreation Area, Hagarville, AR 72839, USA
Another waterfall-filled campground can be found along Haw Creek. Camping is right next to the Haw Creek Falls, but two other cascades are just a short hike away. The campground has nine sites and, while primitive, is also a steal as there are no fees to camp here!
7. Crowley's Ridge State Park - Paragould

You don't have to head to the Middle-of-Nowhere, AR to reach a relaxing campground. One of our favorite state parks for low-key camping is at Crowley's Ridge. Crowley’s Ridge State Park campground has 26 single-family campsites next to Lake Ponder. There are 18 with RV hookups, 8 tent sites and also 20 cabins for rent. Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Each site also has a paved pad, table, fire ring, and grate.
