These 11 Candid Photos Show What Life Was Like In Arkansas In The 1930s

Though Daniella was born in New York and has lived in a couple of other states, Mississippi has been her home for more than 30 years. After graduating from the University of Southern Mississippi, Daniella began to hone her writing skills through various internships. We all know that things have changed greatly since the 1930s. However, have you ever actually thought about what those “changes” entail? Well, if so, you’re in luck. We did a little digging and found some historic photos that will give you an idea of what life was like in Arkansas in the 1930s.
1. As part of a drought relief effort, Red Cross volunteers prepare lunch for schoolchildren near Lonoke in this snap from 1930/1931.
4. This up-high shot provides a great view of the famous Bathhouse Row. Though the exact date is unknown, it’s estimated that this picture was taken in the 1920s – 1930s.
Look closely, and you can see the Arlington Hotel in the background.
5. Though many things have changed since this photo was taken in Altheimer in 1938, some have remained the same – such as the Coca-Cola trademark, which is easily recognizable, even in this dated photo.
