As far as pies go, Possum Pie takes the cake! Eateries throughout the state sell the delicious dessert (which, by the way, doesn’t contain any possums). However, to the dismay of many, it’s not the official state pie of Arkansas. That title was given to another pie decades ago.
Tracking down the state’s official pie is not easy as pie. Most assume it's Possum Pie.
Definitely a worthy contender, the layered pie features a cream cheese mixture, topped by a layer of chocolate pudding, topped by whipped cream and pecans.
The unusual name references the pie’s deceptive appearance. It looks like vanilla on the outside but is chocolate on the inside, so it’s as if the pie is playing possum.

It’s reasonable to assume that Possum Pie is the state pie.
It's often touted as the Natural State’s favorite dessert.
Plus, it’s sold throughout the state, with many restaurants and bakeries, such as Tusk and Trotter in Bentonville and PattiCakes in Conway, whipping up their own versions.
There’s actually very little info out there. However, a few sources say that the official pie of Arkansas is the Cliff House Inn's Company’s Comin’ Pie.
As the story goes, in 1986, in honor of Arkansas’ 150th birthday, Jim Berry, the owner of Cliff House Inn, lobbied for Company’s Comin’ Pie to be the state’s official pie.
But you don't have to travel to Cliff House Inn for a bite of the famous pie. The recipe is posted online.
