J.B. Weisenfels has lived in rural Arkansas for three decades. She is a writer, a mom, and a graduate student. She is also an avid collector of tacky fish whatnots, slightly chipped teapots, and other old things. In her spare time she enjoys driving to the nearest creek to sit a while. If you were to visit her, she'd try to feed you cornbread.
It’s that time of year when you’re about ready to hop into any swimming pool that doesn’t require you to climb a fence by dark of night, right? The blue, blue waters of those pools are just about as appealing as bodies of water come, but what if I told you that you could find a place with several places to cool down? Hiding out in the Ozarks is a gorgeous natural pool called Gunner Pool, and it has its very own recreation area complete with cool, clear creeks and absolutely gorgeous scenery.
Gunner Pool Recreation Area is located near Fifty-Six. You can get directions here.
Gunner Pool is fed by Gunner Creek, which is an absolutely stunning clear creek.
One thing you’ll notice about Gunner Pool is that the water there is a gorgeous shade of blue. In fact, you’re not likely to find bluer water anywhere.
What causes the blue color of the water is dissolved limestone and minerals from caverns under the ground. That little fact doesn’t make it any more beautiful, but it sure is fun to think about the cool water rushing through the earth.
You can see a lot of North Sylamore Creek as it flows through the Gunner Pool Recreation Area. The old bridge that spans North Sylamore Creek is incredibly picturesque.
Gunner Pool Recreation Area is truly a hidden gem of the Natural State, and there’s no time like the present to explore this gorgeous natural wonder with its clear creeks, blue pool, and intense natural beauty.
