Arkansas’ newest art museum has an interesting outdoor installation that’s downright eye-popping! This Yayoi Kusama piece known as Narcissus Garden is odd yet beautiful and completely entrancing. This newest exhibit is just one more reason plan a visit so let’s all take a virtual stroll in the meantime.
Please note, this exhibit was temporary and is no longer on view.
The newly opened art museum has returned to business and now offers even more to explore.
The Momentary opened earlier this year but had a multi-month closure due to COVID-19. The museum reopened (with some additional social distancing guidelines) in June and has continued to roll out thought-provoking art installations ever since. If you'd like to read more about the museum as a whole, read our full article right here.
The newest exhibit is a dizzying outdoor display that features 900 mirror spheres.
The effect is nearly an optical illusion. The reflective spheres change their color with every different viewing angle and the sheer number of them is quite the sight!

Narcissus Garden is a creation of Yayoi Kusama. She's made multiple versions of the garden since 1966.
The naming comes from the Roman mythology, Echo and Narcissus. Through this reflective sphere garden Kusama strives to show the interconnection of the universe as well as the infinity of it all.
The art of Yayoi Kusama made an Arkansas appearance at the end of last year, too.
You may already be familiar with the permanent exhibit, My Heart is Dancing Into the Universe. It's one of Kusama's infinity mirror rooms and it's completely dazzling. You can read more about the Crystal Bridge's installation here.
The Momentary is focused on ever-changing exhibits so be sure to make plans to see Narcissus Garden in person!
The exhibit is on the north side of the Quonset Hut building and is estimated to be on display for about a year. All of the experiences at The Momentary are free to the public, too!
