One of my favorite things about Arkansas is that there is a hidden gem around every corner. Whether it’s a stunning lake, a beautiful waterfall, or a towering bluff, Arkansas is a treasure trove for nature lovers. As the outdoor playground of the south, adventure awaits no matter where you go, especially if you love spending time on the water. So, we’ve put together a lake road trip that takes you to 7 of the most stunning lakes in Arkansas that you can imagine. Gas up your car, grab your kayak and paddles, and let’s explore these incredible oases.
The 7-hour road trip would be great for a weekend adventure. This means you can have plenty of time to enjoy each lake.
Of course, our first stop must be Lake Ouachita, tucked inside the serene Ouachita Mountains. As the clearest lake in Arkansas, you can expect beautiful waters that rival the Caribbean. With over 200 islands and 1,000 miles of stunning shoreline, you’ll have plenty to explore at this paradise for water enthusiasts.

2. DeGray Lake, Bismarck

Forget the islands, DeGray Lake has the most crystal-clear blue waters that are great for swimming, boating, kayaking, fishing, and more. No passport is needed to bask in the sun on the sandy beaches at this lake. Plus, while there, you can explore the resort state park that boasts golf courses, swimming pools, and a luxury lodge.
Boaters, kayakers, and anglers, Lake Maumelle is an 8,900-acre water playground that you’ll love. This pretty man-made lake near Little Rock has 70-miles of shoreline, so there is lots of room for you to explore. Due to the lake being the primary water source for folks in the area, no swimming is allowed, but don’t let that stop you from enjoying this gorgeous haven.
Our next stop takes us to Beaverfork Lake in Conway. This 960-acre serene lake is a haven for swimming, kayaking, fishing, windsurfing, and more water sports. It is also the site of an old Arkansas relic, so be sure to walk across this historic bridge while you’re there.
Easily one of the prettiest lakes in Arkansas, Greers Ferry Lake is a favorite spot for locals and visitors alike. You can find white sandy beaches, hiking trails, campsites, as well as rugged cliffs for diving. Nestled at the foothills of the Ozarks, this lake is surrounded by tremendous beauty, and it’s one of the best destinations for water recreation in Arkansas.
What Mirror Lake lacks in water recreation, it makes up for in beauty. The emerald waters of this tiny 3-acre lake will leave you breathless. There is no swimming on the lake, but it’s stocked with rainbow trout, so bring your rod and spend some time fishing. What’s more, there is a pretty waterfall and hiking trails to explore. Plus, be sure to check out Blanchard Spring Caverns while you’re there.
Known for its pristine beaches, Norfolk Lake is the ultimate vacation paradise. Its 550-mile shoreline is full of many sandy beaches, some of which are only accessible by boat. Whether you’re there to swim, boat, or soak up some sun, you’ll fall in love with the crystal-blue waters of Norfolk Lake.
