J.B. Weisenfels has lived in rural Arkansas for three decades. She is a writer, a mom, and a graduate student. She is also an avid collector of tacky fish whatnots, slightly chipped teapots, and other old things. In her spare time she enjoys driving to the nearest creek to sit a while. If you were to visit her, she'd try to feed you cornbread.
Arkansas is full of great festivals. Nearly every small town has one or two. Grape festivals, watermelon festivals, arts and craft festivals, the town of Emerson even has a purple hulled pea festival. They’re all great, but no festival fills Arkansans with more pride than Toad Suck Daze. With festival favorites like live entertainment, endless food trucks and vendors, and good ole fashioned toad races—plus that unique Toad Suck-specific charm—Toad Suck Daze is definitely epic, and there’s absolutely no reason you shouldn’t go this year.
Toad Suck Daze has been running since 1982. It began on the banks of the Arkansas River in the community of Toad Suck, but Conway has played host to the event for the past twenty-five years.
Well, first of all, Toad Suck Daze is so important to Arkansans, and especially Conway locals, that there’s a mural dedicated to it, in addition to the painting on Toad Suck Square.
Secondly, Toad Suck Daze is devoted to enriching the community. Since 1985, they’ve contributed more than 1.6 million dollars to education, including scholarships and preschool funding. They also support development projects in downtown Conway.
In short, you need to go to Toad Suck Daze. Ask for time off work, recruit your friends, pack that car, and head on down to the most epic festival in the Natural State, happening this year on the weekend of May 5-7.
