The weather may not currently be conducive to outdoor adventures in the Natural State, on account of that bitter cold, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the outdoors on those cold, clear days. All you really need to find some gorgeous nature is a car to ride around in. Below you’ll find nine natural wonders in Arkansas that you can view from the warmth of an automobile.
1. The Arkansas Grand Canyon
Located near the town of Jasper, the Arkansas Grand Canyon is a gorgeous sight that you definitely need to see in every season. Simply head up Scenic Byway 7 and drive until you see one of the most spectacular sights in the Natural State.
2. The Delta
If you want to see forever, you definitely need to head on over to the Delta. Due largely to clearing of the land to make space for some serious agriculture, the Delta offers expansive views and grand sunsets you simply have to see to believe. To find the Delta, drive east. (If you already live in the Delta, drive out of town and stay for awhile.)
3. Artist Point
Artist Point is a gorgeous spot just north of the tiny town of Mountainburg. It’s on the Boston Mountain Scenic Loop, so you’ll want to head up old highway 71 to see some of the prettiest country in Arkansas from the comfort of your car.
4. Pinnacle Mountain
Located about a mile from the northwestern edge of Little Rock, Pinnacle Mountain is well known for its distinctive look. You’re going to love the views you’ll get driving to that gorgeous mountain.
5. Natural Dam
You can find Natural Dam by heading north of Van Buren on Highway 59. The dam will look different depending on the rainfall totals, which impact the flow rate, but no matter how it looks, it’s always a wonder. The natural formation crosses the Mountain Fork Creek in a way that looks manmade—but isn’t.
6. The Ouachita National Forest
The Ouachita National Forest covers 1.8 million acres in southeastern Oklahoma and southwestern to central Arkanssas, and 1.4 million of those acres are located in the Natural State. It’s a beautiful forest to drive through and one of the best ways to do that is to take the Talimena Scenic Drive. If you’d rather not end in Oklahoma, that’s okay, I understand, you can just turn around at the state line.
7. The Ozark National Forest
There are lots of places where you can see the Ozark National Forest. At over 1.2 million acres, there are plenty of opportunities to drive through it, see it from a distance, and there are even places where you can pull over and enjoy it from your car.
8. Mount Magazine
Mount Magazine is a glory that must be seen to be believed. Once you get to the state park, you can pull off and get out of your car for a minute to view the Natural State from its highest point. One thing is for sure, you can enjoy that glorious mountain as you drive to it and on it, and it’s a must see destination no matter the season.
9. Falling Water Falls
Falling Water Falls is exceptionally gorgeous, and it’s easily viewable from the comfort of your car. It takes a bit of driving to get there, but most of that driving is on Scenic Highway 7, and that’s a gorgeous place to drive away your worries. You’ll find Falling Water Falls in the Richland Creek Wilderness Area on Forest Service Road 1205 near Pelsor.
