And at DONS Southern Social in Hot Springs, you can relive a tiny bit of those days when mobsters and gangsters ran the town. This brand new restaurant in Arkansas is not only dishing up incredible eats, but it’s also providing a unique dining experience. With its secret entrances as well as its bold dishes and delightful cocktails, locals are raving about it. And if you ask me, you’ll want to explore this unique restaurant for yourself.
It can be tricky being the new kid on the restaurant block, but when you have an incredible concept paired with delicious food, you’ve created a recipe for success. And that’s exactly what you’ll find at DONS Southern Social, a speakeasy themed restaurant in Hot Springs, that's all the rave.
Opened in August of 2023, DONS has been impressing locals and visitors alike in a short time. See, the dining experience begins before you step foot inside the restaurant. You're required to make reservations for the instructions on how to gain entry to this hidden gem. There are several secret ways to access the restaurant and one includes a bookcase that's inside the Nine 01 Gallery that shares the same building.
Of course, a password is also required which adds to the fun of it all. Once you step inside the restaurant, you'll love the warm, beautifully decorated dining space complete with a full bar. If you think the speakeasy theme is impressive, be prepared to be blown away by the bold, southern-inspired flavors on the menu. The current menu features upscale cuisines with a unique twist.
Chef Joshua Garland creates each plate like a work of art using robust flavors and vibrant colors. And if you're a foodie, these dishes will be a dream come true for you. Take for instance this deviled egg topped with fried alligator and black truffles. YUM! It's a favorite of the patrons and it's unlike anything that you'll eat this year.
There is no fixed menu as the selections will change to guarantee that the best ingredients are used in every plate. Currently, the Woo Pig Sooie is one of their specialty items. It's a grilled bourbon-applewood smoked pork belly with goat cheese polenta, and black eye peas salad. And yes, it's as divine as it sounds.
Other selections include the southern Bolognese served with a honey smoked biscuit, the Straight Outta Cluckton, which is a fried chicken dish, and the Empire Steak, a 30-day aged 12-oz NY strip. No matter what you choose, expect to indulge in one of the best meals you'll have in your life.
Be sure to order one of the signature cocktails to complement your meal. And of course, you must save room for dessert as the selections are just as visually stunning as the menu items. This speakeasy restaurant is one of the best dining experiences in Hot Springs, and in my opinion, you should experience it for yourself.
