She loves exploring the trails around the Buffalo National River and has yet to find a waterfall that wasn't her favorite.
Our capital city isn’t all hustle and bustle, you can even find a wetlands boardwalk trail in the middle of the hubbub. A calm and beautiful nature retreat reside on the northwest edge of Little Rock. Let’s take a walk around the William Kirsch Preserve.
The adventure doesn't stop at Pinnacle Mountain State Park. Another fun day trip can be had the base of the mountain in the Ranch North Woods. The William Kirsch Preserve is quite the unexpected nature tour in Little Rock.
Address: 8803 Ranch Boulevard, Little Rock, AR 72223
The preserve spans over 200 acres and includes part of the Little Maumelle River. The land was originally suppose to be developed for housing but was sold to the Nature Conservancy in 2014 instead. We definitely prefer this area in its natural state!
The natural beauty of the area is a perfectly peaceful place to just relax and enjoy. Take a picnic and drink in the scenery or explore the different trails in the area.
Experienced hikers are certainly welcomed but so are any nature lovers, children, and even four-legged friends. Dogs do not have to be leashed in the preserve but do be sure to leave no trace.
The nature preserve has four short hiking trails and a water trail as well. Leisurely take a kayak around the river or take the Little Maumelle River Water Trail. The full water trail is 8.2-miles long and is rapid-free.
If you're feeling extra adventurous you can even make this trip into an overnight getaway! Along the water trail is a floating platform for camping. It's the only floating campsite in the state!
