Arkansans have a few ways of feeling like we’re on top of the world. Hawksbill Crag, accessible by the Whitaker Point Trail in the Ozark National Forest in Boxley (just south of Ponca), is a great photo opportunity if you don’t have vertigo or even a slight cringe when it comes to heights. In addition to that, Skydive Skyranch in Siloam Springs offers daredevils a chance to test their mettle at high altitudes. Whether it’s jumping from a plane or from a hot air balloon, these brave souls are guaranteed to find a thrill!
The overall scenery of the Ozark National Forest is gorgeous but the actual thought of resting comfortably atop Hawksbill Crag to take it all in is a little unnerving for many.
Some people (myself included) feel a little safer when they're literally grounded in high places. Literally standing at the edge can give you a slight dizzy feeling, but perching at the edge on hands and knees and having a look at what's below is preferable to a moment of vertigo.
When those of us who are afraid of heights can overcome our phobia, we'll be able to share awesome 'I was there' moments like Josh Heinrichs in this cool picture.
The subject of this photograph seems to have momentarily lost her nerve after previously taking a photo seated in a very calm, cross legged zen pose in the same spot. This photo shows how most of us would feel when up this high and sitting on the edge.
The young lady in this photograph shows off her admirable balance skills after posing at the edge of Hawksbill Crag. I have nothing but respect; I'd be dizzy at this point.
What better way to bond with someone than to go tandem jumping from a hot air balloon? According to the good people at Skydive Skyranch in Siloam Springs, this jump is performed a few times a year.
You have to overcome your fear of heights somehow, so what better way to do it than have your friends coax you into standing at the edge of Hawksbill Crag and taking a peek below you?
There's always that one irrationally brave person who has to make the photograph memorable. This guy looks like he could slip off the edge at any moment while the photo crew behind him works with their equipment.
I doubt I'll ever see Arkansas from this point of view, but God bless those who are brave enough to catch some air in the scariest of ways. Thanks to Skydive Skyranch in Siloam Springs for providing the Natural State a way to get above it all and back to earth safely!
Who’s been brave enough to catch some air and jump out of a plane at Skydive Skyranch? Who here has looked over the edge of Hawksbill Crag & enjoyed the beauty of the Ozark National Forest up close? Talk about your experiences at these extreme locations and other places in Arkansas where the view was both terrifying and glorious.
