Taco Tuesday, anyone? Taco Wednesday through Taco Monday too, maybe? If you’re a fan of tacos, there’s one trail you absolutely have to take. We’re driving all the way across the Natural State, and having some of the best tacos around. This trail will take you about five and a half hours, mostly on I-40, and you’re absolutely going to love it.
1. Pancho’s (West Memphis)
Editor's Note: This restaurant is permanently closed.
Pancho’s has been serving up delicious tacos since 1956. On top of the delicious tacos, you absolutely have to try their cheese dip. It’s so good they sell it in stores, but that jarred stuff doesn’t hold a candle to the real deal.
Pancho’s is located at 3600 East Broadway Avenue in West Memphis.
2. Moctezuma Grill (Forrest City)
If you’re up for authentic Mexican food, beer and wine, you’re in luck. From West Memphis you’ll be driving about forty five minutes to Forrest City, where you’re going to find some of the best tacos and friendliest service anywhere. This little eatery is big on flavor, and you don’t want to miss it.
Moctezuma Grill is located at 737 North Washington Street in Forrest City.
3. Lupita’s Original Mexican Food (Little Rock)
It’s going to take you about an hour and a half to get to Little Rock, but that’s okay. It’s well worth it. Freshly made, authentic Mexican food is on the menu at Lupita’s, and gorgeous, delicious fish tacos are part of that experience. Though if you aren’t into fish, they can make you whatever kind of absolutely mouthwatering taco you like with a friendly smile and a bright atmosphere.
Lupita’s is located at 7710 Cantrell Road in Little Rock.
4. Local Lime (Little Rock)
When it comes to tacos and margaritas, Local Lime is a Little Rock staple. They’ve got fresh flavors inspired by Mexican street fare, and that includes scrumptious taco plates in a variety of delicious combinations. Pictured above you’ll see Caribbean battered shrimp tacos, which is just one of the incredible options available there.
Local Lime is located at 17815 Chenal Parkway Suite F-105 in Little Rock.
5. Tacos 4 Life (Conway)
Great news! You’re only driving thirty minutes to our next stop. Tacos 4 Life is a lovely place to eat tacos and every plate purchased means a meal for a hungry child somewhere in the world, so you can feel really good about it too. Tacos 4 Life does tacos well, and you won’t want to miss all those unique flavors. There is more than one Tacos 4 Life in the Natural State, but since Conway is right on I-40, that’s the one we’re visiting.
Tacos 4 Life’s Conway location can be found at 716 West Oak Street.
6. Taco Villa (Russellville)
After your Tacos 4 Life, you’ll find more tacos for your life after your 45 minute drive to Russellville. Russellville is a college town, and what says college town like Taco Tuesday at a little local joint? Taco Villa has fresh salsa you’ll love, not to mention a homey atmosphere and totally fantastic tacos. They tend to be busy, so you should try to avoid peak seating times.
Taco Villa is located at 420 East 4th Street in Russellville.
7. Rolando’s Restaurante (Fort Smith)
Congrats! You’ve made it all the way across the Natural State. You’re sure to work up an appetite on your 1.5 hour drive to Fort Smith. Boy are you about to be glad you’ve come this far. Rolando’s Restaurante isn’t like the other places on this list. They don’t serve traditional Mexican cuisine or even Tex Mex, they do "Nuevo Latino," and they do it right. This mix of central and South American flavors will leave you wanting more and more mouthwatering tacos.
Rolando’s Restaurante is located at 223 Garrison Avenue in Fort Smith.
8. Las Americas Too (Fort Smith)
All the way across town from Rolando’s you’ll find a different kind of eatery. Las Americas Too is a small, family-run business that serves up authentic Salvadorian and Mexican fare, and there’s nothing like their soft corn tortillas and delicious fillings. This small neighborhood restaurant has flavors so good you’ll keep coming back again and again, even driving all the way across Arkansas if need be.
Las Americas Too is located at 1806 Zero Street in Fort Smith.
