We may be a little bias but it’s no secret that Arkansas is the other other capital of BBQ. We have teeny tiny shacks that draw in endless awards and even a town that’s one of the best BBQ cities in the United States. We may not have the fame of Kansas City or Memphis but you can be guaranteed to find a mouthwatering smoke shack in any corner of the state. One of our favorites is today’s feature, Shorty Small’s. This West Little Rock staple has been serving delicious grub for nearly four decades. Let’s stop for a bite and see what’s on the menu.
Although they're not an Arkansas-only restaurant anymore, Shorty Small's began their BBQ journey in Little Rock.
The Small's restaurant business began back in 1888 with Shorty's father's pancakes. Shorty Small reinvented the family business after inheriting it and later opened his first restaurant in 1980. The flagship BBQ joint is still in Little Rock but other locations can be found in Branson and Oklahoma City.
Address: 11100 North Rodney Parham Road, Little Rock, AR 72212
The family business may have started as breakfast-only, but Shorty Smalls traded in the short stack for a half rack.
Shorty's Original World Famous Ribs live up to their tagline of "Jumpin'-Off-The-Bone Tender Ribs." Not only do they have the right amount of blackened crispiness they also are amazingly juicy. Pair with a side of cole slaw and fries and you have one deliciously mouth-watering meal.

The ribs certainly need to be the first thing you order but the rest of the menu is pretty darn tasty as well.
You'll definitely want to save room or order a dessert to-go. The Chocolate Chip Brownie Sundae (pictured) will satisfy your craving for cookies, ice cream, and brownies all in the same order. Try their Deep-Fried Twinkies covered in Arkansas berry sauce or just savor a simple slice of New York Style Cheesecake.
No matter if it's girls' night or a whole family affair, the comfort foods of Shorty Small's will have you leaving satisfied and full.
Join them for lunch, dinner, or Sunday brunch. Shorty Small's also offers catering and delivery. For the full menu you can visit their website. If you'd like to see more drool-worthy shots of their food, follow their Facebook Page.
