Arkansas is home to some weirdly awesome festivals. The Purple Hull Pea Festival and World Championship Rotary Tiller Race, the World Championship Cardboard Boat Races, and the Old Timers Day Steampunk Festival are just some of the more unique festivals coming up just in the next two months! One funky food fest that’s just around the corner is the 29th Annual Atkins Picklefest. Let’s pack the facts in as we preview this positively pickley festival.
If you're looking for something to do this weekend, you definitely need to head to the small town of Atkins.
This weekend will be their 29th Annual Picklefest. Sponsored by the People for a Better Atkins, this fest packs in a ton of pickled events and fun. For directions to the town, use this map.
Pickles are a big deal in Atkins, the sweetly sour vegetable has sustained their local economy since 1945. The festival paying homage to the pickle began in 1922 and has become a favorite fest for Arkansans.
The pickle legacy of the town also comes from their fried pickles.
Many vital food traditions began in Arkansas (cheese dip anyone?) and the fried pickle is one of the tastiest. Fatman’s Original Fried Dill Pickle developed from the first fried pickle in 1963 by Bernell "Fatman" Austin. The festival is one of the only places to enjoy the legendary originals.
Relish in your pickle love by taking part of the pickle eating contest or the pickle juice drinking contest. There's really no better bragging right to have in Arkansas than by being the pickled champion.

This silly but delicious festival will be fun for the entire family.
