Mitchell's Folly is rather hard to categorize. It's an art gallery but also an antique store. Or a junk shop but more like a museum. Whatever you decide to call it, it's rather amazing. Be sure you don't miss it at 130 Spring St., Eureka Springs, AR 72632.

The first step you take inside is a bit overwhelming but also exhilarating. The more you look, the more you'll see. The first thing you'll notice is all the art but after that each second and third glance will reveal something new. Maybe you'll notice the muffler-base guitar or the basket full of violins.

There's quite a large print collection from muralist Harry Louis Freund but you can find a little bit of everything up here. In addition to the prints, you'll come across a pair of taxidermy opossums, books on fine art, and a hodgepodge of vintage tools.

This is certainly more than just a shop, it's John Mitchell's life collection. He may be soft spoken but he's an absolute wealth of knowledge. You can ask him about any piece in either gallery and he'll quickly fill you in on its history. You probably won't be making a purchase (although you can haggle with John if you're feeling particularly connected to an item) but that's not really the point of coming here. Think of Mitchell's Folly as a relative's attic filled with priceless history.

The shop does not have a Facebook Page or website but you can call 479-253-7030 if you have any inquires.
