The Ozarks has its Grand Canyon but if you head south to the Ouachitas you’ll find the Little Grand Canyon. The latter is one natural wonder you may have overlooked in Arkansas. This feature off of White Oak Lake is a peaceful spot and not to mention beautiful! Let’s go explore this underrated wonder.
White Oak Lake is known for its state park and campground but that's not the only place to visit.
While you're here, head to the northern side of the lake for rewarding detour. The parking for this little canyon is on Ouachita Road 332 after the dam.
The Little Grand Canyon may not be as jaw-dropping as the Arizona original but it sure is a pretty spot in the state.
A short trek from the parking area will lead you downstream to the Little Grand Canyon. Keep in mind that the "trail" is more of a faint road but it is a short and sweet hike.
Erosion over millions of years has created this artistic sculpture through the forest. The creek frequently changes colors from a stunning turquoise to tones of brown so it's worth visiting different times of the year.

Stay on the top of the canyon or venture further down.
The mini vistas give plenty of vantage points to the swirling rockscape as well as a perfect spot for picnics. Take care stepping down but it's also possible to fish or wade in the creek, too.
It may be small but this Little Grand Canyon is a big treasure to find in Arkansas.
Plan a trip soon to enjoy the seclusion or come back for some summertime swimming! If you'd like to stay a while, visit the White Oak Lake State Park site right here.
