Do you dare? Of course you do. Let’s do some traveling around Arkansas and hit some of the haunted spots around the Natural State. This is just one of a few haunted road trips you can make in Arkansas, (because there are a lot of places where paranormal activity and otherworldly experiences have been reported.) These places are very well known for having ghostly visitors. Check them out:
Please note, Allen House is temporarily closed.
1. Start in Eureka Springs at the 1886 Crescent Hotel and Spa.
VIDEO The Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs has a well- known haunted history just as chilling as the spirits that allegedly still lurk there today. The spirits of hospital patients and young students are said to still haunt the building, despite its changes from once being a hospital and a girl's school. The staff will be happy to guide you on a ghost tour.
2. Travel to the Tilly Willy Bridge in Fayetteville.
The Tilly Willy Bridge itself has been demolished, but its haunted legend carries on today. The story about the haunted area states that, nearly 40 years ago, a distraught woman killed herself and her children after driving off the bridge. The woman's car was often spotted driving across the bridge at night, and the woman's ghost is still said to haunt the area.
3. Visit the King Opera House in Van Buren.
Located in Van Buren, The King Opera House in Van Buren is another historic Arkansas location with an interesting past. Staff and visitors say the location is haunted by the ghost of a young actor who performed often at the opera house. He was murdered by the angry father of his young intended bride after their plans to elope were discovered. The story of the haunting has enough drama to become its own epic opera.
4. Discover the Dover Lights.
VIDEO Whether or not you believe in paranormal experiences, you should at least take a trip to Dover to see what has been seen by many. Ghostly lights are seen after dark in the area. The source of the lights are said to be the ghosts of Spanish explorers searching for their lost gold.
5. Find the Highway 365 Hitchhiker.
Beware any hitchhikers on Highway 365. A female hitchhiker is said to attract rides from helpful strangers driving on the road. As legend has it, once the good Samaritan driver arrives at the hitchhiker's given location, the mysterious woman will disappear. The residents on the property won't be surprised if you go any further to ask about the odd occurrence--because their daughter was killed in a car accident and ever since they've been visited by drivers who swear they gave her ghostly spirit a lift.
6. Next, visit the Allen House in Monticello.
VIDEO The Allen House in Monticello was built more than a century ago around 1900. The lovely Gothic mansion has had several hauntings reported by visitors. The ghost of a young woman who haunts the upper and lower floors of the mansion is often seen and mentioned.
7. Cross the Crossett Railroad Tracks.
According to locals, the railroad crossing at Marais Saline Road in Crossett is a haunted hotspot. A creepy swinging light appears to be walking the tracks at this location. Many claim the source of the light is the spirit of a man who was decapitated after being struck by a train. Allegedly, the ghost is searching for his head.
8. See the Gurdon Light
VIDEO A haunting light can be found in Gurdon, Arkansas at various times during the night. As legend has it, the source of the light is from the lantern of a railroad employee's ghost. The demise of the employee is a dispute: Some say he died near the tracks after a fight and others say the worker was struck by a train.
9. Visit the Avon Cemetery.
Located in De Queen, the Avon Cemetery is said to be haunted by a ghostly mother and child. As the story goes, long ago the woman sat the baby on the edge of an old well as she was drawing water, and the baby fell in and drowned. Locals say that if you drop a rock into the well in the center of the cemetery at night, you will hear the baby crying.
