The drive was one of the first official National forest Scenic Byways.

In 1988, the USDA launched the National Forest Scenic Byway Program. The Talimena Drive became a designated drive in February 1989.
You'll start your journey in the small town of Mena.

The drive is 54-miles through the Ouachita National Forest. From Mena you'll head west along Hwy. 88 until you've reached Talimena, OK.
