We love food, we love fun and we love life! Arkansas is a state full of devotion. When we enjoy something, we embrace it with everything. There are certain aspects about the Natural State that everyone enjoys, though. Take a trip around Arkansas and ask the locals; we have more than a few favorite things!
12. Cobbler
It doesn't matter what the season is. Cobbler's always in style around here. I'd say it's even more popular than pie. Nearly every Arkansas resident has had a taste of the perfect cobbler from somewhere, whether it was from the family kitchen or a great restaurant. Peach, apple, cherry, blackberry, blueberry--we'll take them all. Arkansas loves cobbler.
11. Butter Cake
The buttery the cake, the better. Arkansas doesn't play when it comes to the richest of the rich butter cakes. There are kitchen wizards here who make homemade icing for these cakes that will put you off anything store-bought for a long time, too. There are kids who have enjoyed many a sugar rush just from licking the delicious cake batter from the bowl in anticipation of the final product. God blessed the world with butter cake and Arkansas did right by Him.
10. Fellowshipping
We're a friendly bunch here in Arkansas when it comes to places of worship and fellowship. If you're new to the Natural State, don't be shy about talking to anybody when you're looking for a place of worship that's right for you. There's a variety of denominations around Arkansas just waiting to shake your hand and introduce you to the congregation.
9. Shopping
When you've got the spending money, retail therapy is a great cure for anything that ails you here in Arkansas. We have a lot of great places to shop here in the Natural State. Whether it's a big town mall or a small roadside tourist store, you'll find something you like enough to bring back home even if you started out just window shopping.
8. Nachos
7. Sports
You don't have to be a Razorback fan, but it helps. Sports and Arkansas go hand in hand much of the time. If you've ever been in a conversation with an Arkansan and you've exhausted every topic, ask about how their favorite basketball or football team is doing.
6. Driving
It's way easier to drive in Arkansas than it is in America's touted metropolises spanning New York City to San Francisco. Arkansas is still one place where only the most hopelessly of lost will require a taxi as a last resort. We have a large amount of Uber drivers around the state as well as public transportation services that are constantly improving. Driving or traveling around Arkansas is something we love, indeed.
5. Pets
Pets are definitely an integral part of many families in Arkansas. A great example is the story of Joey the Garden Cat, the 'mews'caster of THV11 and official pet of the staff. Joey could often be seen on early morning forecasts interacting playfully with the television anchors. When the beloved kitty sadly passed away in 2014 due to illness, viewers mourned and continue to honor his memory through supporting local and national animal and pet causes. Whether it's your family dog or pet kitty, pets are highly revered in the Natural State.
4. Holidays
Arkansas does holidays right! Christmas almost always comes to mind when the Natural State comes alive with lights and Nativity scenes, but don't forget how Thanksgiving has become an Arkansas culinary art form, the 4th of July has lit the skies and littered yards, and Valentine's Day is when the best restaurants are all booked. Arkansas residents love holidays and celebrate each season with great joy.
3. Barbecue
Are we talking barbecue? If we are, we're definitely talking Arkansas and including a few other states. Nobody does BBQ better than Arkansas. If you don't believe that, treat yourself to a summer cookout here in the Natural State sometime.
2. Camping
It would be quite difficult for you to find an Arkansas resident who's never been on a camping trip. We've all been as scouts or on family outings, or if we waited later in life to experience Arkansas glory we camped with friends. All outdoors experiences can be some of the best times you've ever had in Arkansas. Plan ahead and stay safe out there!
1. Family
Family always comes first in Arkansas. We're so big on the ties that bind that we don't mind looking after the safety of other people's children here in Arkansas. The devotion that Natural State residents show to their loved ones is touching and inspirational.
The holidays are upon us in the Natural State. Christmas is the best time for everything (and everyone) we love to be close to us. Knowing this, what are you loving the most right now, Arkansas? What state trait of satisfaction resonates with you? The nature? The food? Or, the people? Sound off in the comments!
