Arkansas residents don’t mind a little company coming over. If you aren’t from around the area and want to know a little bit about what you’ll see in an Arkansan’s home, you’re in luck! Here’s a quick little lesson to get you prepared on what you’ll find in people’s houses around the Natural State. You’ll find (with some exceptions) that we’re not too different from anyone else in America, even though we pride ourselves on being unique.
Arkansas residents love to throw meat on the grill and have themselves a sizzling good time (and good meal). You'll find patios everywhere with grills on them around Arkansas.
Sometimes we keep them without even meaning to do so. Plastic bags from Walmart or paper bags from Kroger are very useful for temporary and disposable storage after you're done hauling your groceries home.
If you want the good stuff, check out the Aromatique gift shop Panache in Heber Springs. Arkansans are big fans of potpourri and things that make the house smell nice and inviting.
You don't have to be a fan, but really; it's just not an Arkansas home without at least a hog magnet on the fridge or something. You'd be hard pressed to find a house in Arkansas that doesn't have at least one thing with a Razorback logo on it.
Kid toys or pet toys--yep, Arkansas homes are usually full of them. If you're an Arkansas resident that doesn't have kids or pets, give it a while. You'll end up with one or the other.
Variety is the spice of life, and plain old salt and pepper, ketchup and mustard just aren't good enough for Arkansas households. Kitchens in the Natural State have spice racks and sauce bottles ready for flavoring our food to the fullest.
Again, you don't have to be a fan...but something is missing if you don't have at least one Razorback shirt in your closet and you've lived in Arkansas for more than a month...no, a week. Come on, not even a ball cap? Nobody's asking you to wear a Hog's Head every day, but geez, get out and buy a shirt. They have them at Walmart. Every Arkansas house has Razorback clothing in it. That's just life here in the Natural State, so WPS and love it.
Got your Bible? OK, you're doing all right, Arkansas resident. Preferably, you'll always know where it is. But even if you don't know where your Bible is, if you live in an Arkansas home you can feel pretty safe in the knowledge that there's one somewhere on the property. It's just not an Arkansas home without a Bible somewhere in the house. Don't want one? Too bad, you live in Arkansas. It's a guarantee someone will literally hand you a free one sometime in your life here...and you've got to keep it somewhere.
So now that the uninitiated have been initiated and you’ve paid a visit to your friends here in the Natural State, let’s talk! What does an Arkansas resident absolutely have to have in the house? What are some good recommendations for someone who’s just moved to the state and wants to make their house look like a true Arkansan’s home?
