The details may vary depending on which city you’re in, but one thing we can all agree on is the craziness of winter in Arkansas. Here in the River Valley, temperatures have been known to have single digits for New Years Day, only to immediately jump to the high 50s. Of course, this is nothing new to an Arkansan; we know to plan for unexpected rains, temperature swings, and scoff at any weatherman’s forecast in the process. If you’re at a loss at what to do if the weather changes your plans, then let us inspire you with these 7 things to do in Arkansas in the winter.
Don't feel like warmer months are the only time to enjoy the state's amazing trail system. Winter hikes
make for the perfect Arkansas adventure; enjoy the crisp air as you crunch along and avoid the crowds that swarm the trails in summer.
If this picture doesn't motivate you to bundle up and find your own frozen falls then clearly you need to be moving to a consistently warmer state. After passing the hurdle of actually getting out the door, you'll quickly be rewarded with one of these frozen fantasies since so many waterfall hikes are less than two miles.
If your winter hike got rained out then take your adventure indoors with a trip to the Crystal Bridges
in Bentonville. Besides being free, you're more than likely have the chance to join one of their (also free) events like a themed tour or even a meditation session.
If its not warm enough to swim but the humidity is keeping you too sweaty for a hike, take to the canoes! The Buffalo River
is our favorite spot since it has so many access points and has sections fit for every experience level.
If the rains seem to be holding off indefinitely, then it may be the best time to take a night or two at your favorite campsite. Arkansans know to pack layers and jackets just in case the weather swings but the campfire snuggles and marshmallows make the unpredictable temperature worth it.
It’s impossible to just pick one favorite. Read our camping bucket list for some inspiration.
6. Few hours of weather neutrality? Zip through the forest.

So the craziness has held off so far but you're not confident in taking a full day's hike, then why not zip through the trees instead? Zip-lining can be experienced in any season, even if it does rain or snow. See the beauty of Catherine's Landing in Hot Springs if you choose to zip with AdventureWorks.
7. No idea what the weather will do? Stick to the underground.
Blanchard Springs Caverns, 704 Blanchard Springs Road, Fifty-Six, AR 72533, USA
Some of the best winter hikes in Arkansas are actually below ground! If the temperature swings have been extra crazy and committing to a weekend outdoors seems too far-fetched, then a cave tour is the perfect way to get out of the house but out of the weather. We highly recommend chilling in the constant 58° of Blanchard Springs Caverns.
