The French trading post was established along the northern bank of the Arkansas River in 1686. The river and nearby lakes were also heavily used by the Quapaw tribe. The Arkansas Post National Memorial can still be explored today and makes for a fascinating historical trip.
Most folks flock to this county for duck season, but that's certainly not the only reason to visit.

The most well-known city in the county is Stuttgart, the duck capital of the world. In November the city hosts the Wings over the Prairie Festival which features the World's Championship Duck Calling Contest. Duck season may bring about the most visitors to this county but don't feel like you have to wait until winter to visit. Wildlife at the lakes is enjoyable to view all year-round.
