Hike Above And Below The Trail At Arkansas' Buzzard Roost
Buzzard Roost is a one-of-a-kind trail deep in the Ozark National Forest. The rock formations along the way will take you below, and well above ground. Let’s explore the crevasses and bluffs along this twisting trail.

The Roost is east of Haw Creek Falls Recreation Area and about 12 miles south of Sand Gap. The there-and-back trail is just under four miles round trip. Do watch children around the bluffs but this trail is quite family friendly and will keep everyone's inner explorer happy.

The trail begins on a ATV trail for easy navigation before turning upwards to follow the ridge. Keep in mind the trail is not officially marked but is clear to follow. Use the GPS-friendly map from this site during your trek.

Hike above, around, and below the rock formations for an interesting perspective. The open maze of 40-ft. deep crevasses have a variety of paths to explore that won't leave your party lost. Do be wary of the open gaps when exploring above the maze, you certainly don't want to fall!

This area has two sandstone bridges for even more exploration and picture taking. The smaller one is easy to see from the trail. The larger one is along a short trail just to the left of the roost. And as always, be mindful of small kids around the bluffs.

You may or may not spot a buzzard here but would be a perfect spot for one to loom. The "turtle" rocks are the same type of formation found in Petit Jean State Park. Be careful navigating along the top of them but they do offer a gorgeous panoramic view of the valley.

There is an area at the beginning of the trail used for primitive camping if you'd like to turn this trail into an overnight outing. Although this trail is perfect as a stand-alone adventure, we will mention Haw Creek Falls, Long Pool, and Kings Bluff are all under 20 miles away. You can easily turn your day trip into a weekend of exploration.
