It’s one thing to enjoy the food in Arkansas and it’s another thing to enjoy the overall culture of the Natural State, but what if a native Arkansan were asked to describe the local flavor in the most literal sense? If it were possible to put some of the best things about Arkansas bottles and ship them to less fortunate places that don’t get to enjoy the glory Arkansas has, what would the flavors taste like?
8. Wine
Historic and Arkansas-based Wiederkehr Wine Cellars, located in Wiederkehr Village outside of Altus, Arkansas has been a local tradition since 1880. The taste of a good Blush Niagra or White Muscadine is sold year round, making the wine one of many great Arkansas tastes that can be bottled and enjoyed.
7. Beer
Diamond Bear Brewery, located in North Little Rock has been in operation since 2000, and produces such flavors as Southern Blonde Ale, Irish Red, and Holiday IPA for the Natural State's bottled enjoyment.
6. Honey
The Fischer Honey Company, an Arkansas-owned business that was established in 1945, is located in North Little Rock and is the largest and oldest honey processing and packing plant in Arkansas. Locals are familiar with the Fischer's bear shaped honey bottles when shopping, making this export another distinct and delicious Arkansas bottled taste.
5. Tomato
The Bradley County Pink Tomato Festival, held earlier this summer in Warren, Arkansas, is one of the oldest festivals in the Natural State and celebrates the symbol of Bradley County, Arkansas - the tomato. Where would our kitchen tables be without the bottled (or jarred) tomato-based goodness of ketchup? Especially if it's homemade from an Arkansas garden!
4. Strawberry
If it were possible to bottle the essence of a strawberry from Cabot or Bald Knob, you can believe that product would be worth the price! Meanwhile Arkansas natives enjoy the taste of berries freshly sliced with cream, and homemade strawberry preserves from jars, especially when served at the annual strawberry festivals in both Bald Knob and Cabot, Arkansas.
3. Mountain Valley Spring Water
Another of Arkansas's best exports; Mountain Valley Spring Water is based in Hot Springs, Arkansas since 1871 and is currently owned by Clear Mountain Water of Little Rock. Mountain Valley Spring Water is distributed across the United States and brings the crystal clear waters of Arkansas to people everywhere.
2. Watermelon
All right, so you can't actually bottle watermelon without making a mess, but actually trying to do so sounds like fun! If Arkansans could bottle one of its best tastes it would definitely be watermelon, the focus of the beloved annual Hope Watermelon Festival held from August 6th to 8th this year.
1. BBQ Sauce
One of the best tastes you'll ever be fortunate enough to find in a bottle in the Natural State is its signature barbecue sauce! There are many family recipes mixed and bottled in a lot of Arkansas kitchens, but don't forget that Hot Springs's McClard's BBQ offers a great bottle of sauce for serious connoisseurs!
Don’t underestimate Arkansas’s good taste! Of course, many out of towners can enjoy these bottled tastes just the same, but nothing beats taking a trip down to the Natural State and enjoying these great things (bottled or fresh) for yourself!
