She loves exploring the trails around the Buffalo National River and has yet to find a waterfall that wasn't her favorite.
The Buffalo National River isn’t the only place to explore at Ponca Landing. Balanced Rock Falls is an underrated but gorgeous waterfall to chase, too! It may not be quite the hot spot like Falls Creek Falls or as well known as Hemmed-In Hollow but this waterfall is should make your Arkansas bucket list. So let’s head to the Ponca Low-Water Bridge and explore this hidden trail.
As inviting as it is, there's one trail you need to hit before diving into the Buffalo National River.
The entire area at and around Ponca's Low-Water Bridge is simply stunning. Ponca Landing is a popular spot for river kayakers or picnic swimmers; however, that's not the only reason to stop here.
After you've crossed the river, you'll see a trail sign. Our little hike is so underrated it's not even listed!
The Buffalo River Trail is the easiest path to spot, however this is not the way we want to go today! The trail for Balanced Rock is difficult to see but it's between the sign and the Buffalo River Trail. The brush will quickly open up to Leatherwood Creek.

Leatherwood Creek is a dreamy escape from the sun and civilization.
The peaceful stream, green canopy, and cool breeze makes this place an oasis even in the midst of summer. The hike to the falls is only a little over a mile to reach but you'll never want to leave this beautiful area!
Most of these are weather-dependent so be sure to take the trail within a few days of a recent rain. The smaller waterfalls vary but are all worth admiring before continuing the trek.
Although there's no designated trail, you'll definitely know when you've arrived at your destination.
The trail is pretty straight forward since you just need to follow the creek there and back. On the left side of the creek is a smaller stream that will lead you uphill to Balanced Rock Falls. Do take care since this trek is steep!
Balanced Rock Falls is an aptly named waterfall hiding near this creek.
The waterfall and its surroundings are simply breathtaking in person. After you've taken your pictures you just need to follow the creek back to the bridge. If you care to explore even more, then head back downhill to the creek and continue upstream. There are more small waterfalls to find and a natural pool.
This trail may be short and sweet but be sure to research further before heading out. This GPS-friendly map will be very helpful!
