There’s still some time left in the summer, but with August comes the rush to do everything you wanted to do this summer and haven’t yet. If you’re looking for ways to put more summer adventure on your list, you can’t do better than these eleven places. They’re all just about perfect for enjoying under the summer sun.
To read a full article about each of these activities, click the link in the description.
1. Float a lazy river.
I know you’re thinking lots of rivers aren’t great for floating in the late summer, but you can still float the lower Ouachita this late in the season. The lower Ouachita is generally a no-nonsense float, lazy even, and a great way to relax on the water.
You can find a whole article about floating the laziest portion of the Ouachita River
here.
2. Glamp at Catherine’s Landing.
Catherine’s Landing is a place full of adventure, including an adventure park, a dock with boat rentals, and some premium shore space on scenic Lake Catherine. If you’re into camping or glamping, you can’t do better than this place. They’ve got yurts, cottages, a lodge, and plenty of hookups for your very own RV.
There’s a lot more to say about Catherine’s Landing, luckily you can find more

3. Admire Lake Hamilton aboard the Belle of Hot Springs.
There’s nothing quite like exploring Arkansas’s spa city, and Lake Hamilton is one among its many charms. You can find lots of ways to enjoy the lake, but one of the best ways is to climb aboard the Belle of Hot Springs and take a cruise around it. They’ve got lots of options for cruises, including sunset dinner cruises, lunch cruises, and even the occasional booze cruise.

4. Take a hike to a waterfall, then swim beneath it.
Lake Catherine has its own charm, of course, but one thing that sets it apart from other Arkansas lakes is the lovely waterfall just a short hike from its shore. Falls Creek Falls is a gorgeous waterfall that doesn’t require much effort to view, and you can always hop right in that creek if you get too hot on your journey.

5. Check out Pinnacle Mountain.
Pinnacle Mountain isn’t very far from Little Rock, and as one of the most picturesque and unique mountains in the Natural State, I’d say it’s definitely a trip you need to take. You can choose to summit the mountain, but as that’s hard work in the summer time, I say you drive over to admire it and spend your time playing in the Little Maumelle River or the Big Maumelle River, which sit in its shadow at Pinnacle Mountain State Park.
You can see some pretty amazing views of Pinnacle Mountain
at this link.
6. Climb aboard a houseboat and sleep on the water.
Mountain Harbor Resort at Lake Ouachita has a lot to offer, and one of the more impressive things they have there is DreamChaser Housboat Rentals. You can rent a luxurious houseboat that will provide a means of transportation for your daytime adventures and rock you to sleep at night. There are hundreds of islands in Lake Ouachita, and a houseboat is a great way to explore them.

7. Cool down in a natural pool.
Truth be told, Gunner Pool Recreation Area has a lot more than just a natural pool. You’ll find more than clear, beautiful creek there. With nearby North Sylamore Creek and Gunner Creek and the blue, blue waters of Gunner Pool, you’re not going to run out of bodies of water to play in.

8. Eat all the ice cream you can hold.
Here’s where I advise that you take a road trip. Not just any road trip, but one to some of the most appetizing ice cream shops, dairy bars, and food trucks you can find. It’s hot out and nothing says comfort like a cup of cool ice cream.
The road trip will take you about five hours of drive time, with nine stops along the way. You can see all the stops
in this article.
9. Put your feet up at a resort in an underrated Delta City.
Near the small Delta town of McGehee, you’re going to find a surprising number of things to do. A number of those things are located in the Delta Resort & Spa. From skeet shooting to staying in for a lovely massage, you’re not going to run out of things to do there.

10. Play at the Alma Aquatic Park.
Alma is a pretty small town, but hiding in the city park there you’re going to find a totally lovely aquatic center that can entertain your family all day. There are a number of slides and swimming pools, one of which includes a climbing wall. There’s even a covered spot where the really little kids can play.
There’s more information and lots of pictures of the Alma Aquatic Center
in this article.
11. Take a long, cool drive on Scenic Seven.
If you’re looking at this list and thinking you’d prefer not to walk further than your car in the oppressive Arkansas heat, you’ve reached the point in this article where I recommend maybe you don’t walk further than your car. You can see some beautiful sights along the way when you drive AR-7, including the Arkansas Grand Canyon.
