We’re well-accustomed to adverse weather here in Arizona, but the 2010 hail storm was one for the books. Phoenix endured a massive walloping on October 5th – a day will be forever burned into our memories.
Nine years ago, the worst hail storm in our state's history struck. Although it was short-lived, October 5, 2010 is a day that we'll never forget.
It all started at about 4:30 p.m. An ominous thunderstorm started moving across the valley, its development thanks to an unstable atmosphere and some serious wind shear.
This was far from a typical afternoon shower; it produced hail that measured up to three inches in diameter - the largest ever recorded in Maricopa County!
Hail wasn't the only adverse weather event that occurred on October 5. It was also the largest single-day tornado outbreak in Arizona history, with eight twisters touching down. There were no casualties, however 11 people did get injured.
