I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
If one of your favorite winter activities is hiking, then we’ve got you covered. And if you love the snow and winter scenery in Arizona, well, you’ll love this hike! One of the snowiest parts of the state is Flagstaff and you’re bound to get a great cold-weather hike in, scenery included. Let’s take a trek along the Mars Hill Trail, shall we?
There's nothing quite like breathing in cold winter air up in the mountains. While most people head to Snowbowl for skiing and snowboarding during the winter, others hit the epic trails of Flagstaff.
Flagstaff certainly transforms into a winter wonderland this time of year, and there's a trail I'd like to suggest you check out. Located within the Coconino National Forest, the Mars Hill Trail is chock full of winter scenery this time of year.
Mars Hill Trail is a 3.5-mile out-and-back trek with an overall elevation gain of 449 feet. It's rated "easy" for those of you who aren't looking for anything strenuous.
Grab your hiking boots or a pair of snowshoes and enjoy the peace you'll feel along this trail. In the winter, the trails experience light foot traffic so you may not encounter many others along the way.
The trail through the Ponderosa pine trees is wide and you'll be treated to glimpses of the snow-capped mountains in the distance. I think this scenery just beautiful, don't you?
