Glen Canyon National Recreation Area is home to the glorious Lake Powell. Straddling the border of Utah and Arizona, Lake Powell is a reservoir along the Colorado River that has provided a playground for outdoor enthusiasts for decades. However, drought has plagued the lake since the year 2000 and, in recent years, water levels have recently dropped to an all-time low. But great news has finally arrived this year. After years of record-breaking drought, the Lake Powell water levels keep rising, and you’ll want to take advantage of it this summer.

Glen Canyon National Recreation Area is home to Lake Powell, the second-largest reservoir in the United States. Popular for tourism, the lake welcomes approximately two million visitors each year.

For many years now, the reservoir's waters have receded an alarming amount. And with the drop in water levels, tourism has also dropped.

This year, however, there has been record of runoff over the spring that has increased Lake Powell's water levels. And it continues to rise! It's hopeful that with the increase in water, tourism will also increase.

If you enjoy boating on the lake, Halls Crossing Boat Ramp on the Utah side of the lake is open to boats of all sizes and expects to be busy this summer! Boaters will have to pay extra attention to buoys in the no wake zone.

In 2022, water levels were so low that the Dangling Rope Marina, also on the Utah side, closed. As it's still closed, there is no boat gas available mid-lake at this point in time -- something to keep in mind when you visit.

As spring runoff is continuously flowing, the lake's water levels can increase nearly two feet per day. While this is great news and provides better opportunities for boating, an abundance of caution should be exercised.
