It was originally a peninsula on the Colorado River, entirely separating from land after the London Bridge Channel was dug.
Although digging the channel shut off access to the island, it was only temporary.

Lake Havasu City received the esteemed London Bridge in the early 1970s, and with its arrival came a brand new travel opportunity.
It's easy to reach Pittsburgh Point - all you have to do is cross the bridge.

Today, the facility serves as the only free public launch ramp in Lake Havasu City, also boasting courtesy docks, restrooms, and a fishing pier. A wide variety of fish swim beneath the surface, including catfish, crappie, sunfish, and three different species of bass.
