Next time you find yourself in Rim Country, don’t leave without stopping by June’s Cafe. Quaint and unassuming, this tiny roadside restaurant in Arizona has been filling the bellies of hungry travelers for decades with hearty, all-American cuisine. From the charming atmosphere to the delicious food, this little gem will enchant you beyond words.
Perched atop the Mogollon Rim, Heber-Overgaard is an itty bitty town of just under 3,000 that's easy to pass up if you aren't specifically looking for it. That would be a shame, however, because it's home to some of the best food you'll ever eat.
The self-proclaimed "Best Little Diner on the Mountain," June's Cafe is a tiny roadside restaurant tucked away along a secluded stretch of AZ-260. Despite its intimate size and remote location, the eatery always has a packed house - people will drive from all over Arizona for the hearty, home-cooked, all-American fare that June's serves up daily.
Upon stepping inside, you'll see lots of USA-themed memorabilia, as well as vintage Coca-Cola signs and other retro décor. The vibe is old-fashioned Americana mixed with a bit of nostalgia, and you'll feel at home as soon as you walk through the door.
Quirkiness in the form of yard sticks taped to the walls and even hanging from the ceiling adds to the charming ambiance. Try to count how many there are!
June's is open for breakfast and lunch, and there isn't a single bad item on the menu. If you're stopping by in the morning, opt for eggs cooked any way you like them, pancakes the size of your plate, or maybe a loaded breakfast burrito.
Whatever you do, make sure to order a slice of pie! A variety of scrumptious flavors are baked fresh daily, and you can taste the TLC that goes into them with every bite you take.
Have you ever eaten at June’s Cafe? If so, we’d love to hear all about your experience. Tell us in the comments below! Don’t forget to check out our previous article to learn more about the stunning natural wonder that is the Mogollon Rim.
