The holiday season is in full swing, which means lots of painfully long car rides. Before heading out, make a pit stop at Tucson Truck Terminal for a delicious meal in the most surprising surroundings. Omar’s Hi-Way Chef Restaurant is everything you love about charming, old-fashioned diners conveniently located for weary travelers to fill their bellies with a home-cooked meal before setting off on the road.
Triple T has been around since 1954, but Chef Omar didn't come into the picture until 1996. Since then, Food Network has featured the travel center and rated it #2 in America among truck stops.
Admittedly a little dingy, unassuming doesn't even begin to cover the ambiance of this dimly lit dining room with hospital-green floors. In striking contrast to the decor are the incredibly hospitable staff, many of whom have worked here for a decade or more.
You won't find a menu this extensive at many other restaurants in Tucson, let alone convenience stores. Breakfast all day plus a variety of American, Mexican, and Italian dishes ensure the only way you'll leave hungry is by not ordering a thing.
Sandwiches and salads are also available for those who want something a little lighter. This club sandwich might not pack the same caloric punch as spaghetti and meatballs, but no amount of flavor has been sacrificed.
We can't forget about the Deep Dish Apple Pie, a Hi-Way Chef specialty. Topped with a heaping scoop of vanilla ice cream, it's the perfect ending to any meal.
Have you ever eaten at Triple T? Are there any other truck stops or otherwise unassuming restaurants in Arizona that serve amazing food? Here’s one of our favorite taco joints located in the most surprising place.
