Katie Lawrence is a Southeast Texas native who graduated 18th in her high school class with a GPA of 4.25. She attended college in the Houston area and began writing for OnlyInYourState in 2015.
Today, Katie writes, edits, and performs several other tasks for OnlyInYourState and has never been more passionate about a job before. Outside of work, you can likely find her curled up on with a hot cup of coffee, practicing yoga, baking, or exploring the beautiful Lone Star State (in particular, the vast and mystical West Texas desert).
Even though we don’t have to confine our drinking to secret underground rooms with passwords required for entry, sometimes it’s just more fun that way. UnderTow is an exotic tiki bar hiding right beneath the hustle and bustle of Phoenix. Embark on a tropical getaway (complete with coconut drink glasses!) without even traveling out of state. Check it out:
You won't find any street or building signs for UnderTow; this inconspicuous watering home is very exclusive and hidden inside Sip Coffee & Beer Garage.
Descend the thatched roof staircase and you’ll be transported to an exotic paradise.
Designed like a pirate ship, the bar provides an immersive experience to all who hop aboard. Sound effects, atmospheric lighting, and even fog simulators create a vibe of realism that’s almost difficult to distinguish from reality.
Guests are welcome to come for the fun at UnderTow for 90-minute blocks. You can reserve seats in advance for up to six people. If you have a larger party, contact the bar for more information.
The menu is ever-changing, moving in a chronological fashion to tell stories of triumph and peril at sea. Different, unique vessels for food and drinks are used depending on the current narrative.
