The Birria At Arizona's Taco King Is So Good, It Sells Out Before Closing Time

Here in Arizona, we don’t mess around when it comes to tacos — it’s either the best of the best or nothing at all. AZ Taco King, a relatively new Phoenix restaurant, is the former, with a birria so good, it often sells out before close.
Earlier this year, owner Jazmin Sears had just begun focusing on her catering business full-time — then COVID-19 came along. With events being canceled left and right, she decided to open up a taco cart in the parking lot of a friend's liquor store. The food ended up being such a hit, she and her husband were able to open a brick-and-mortar restaurant in August.
The signature menu item, called a "quesabirria," piles the flavorful, slow-cooked meat onto a corn tortilla with cheese. The entire concoction is then dipped in a consommé broth before frying — yum!

At just $2 each, these simple, yet delicious tacos are filled with birria meat, cilantro, and onions.

For a truly unique taste sensation, try the "ramenbirria," which features ramen noodles and birria swimming in broth and topped with cheese. It also comes in Tapatío flavor!
Other ways you can enjoy birria include atop French fries, on a torta, or in its original form as a stew (with tortillas on the side, of course.)
Get it as tacos, in a salad, over French fries, on a quesadilla, or all wrapped up in a burro. Various lunch specials, side dishes, and regular meat plates served with tortillas are also available. And if you're vegetarian, there's even a veggie fajita option!
Agua frescas in various flavors are a staple on the menu, as well as homemade horchata with real cinnamon sticks. You can't go wrong with either!
Hours are 12 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, 12 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday and Sunday, and 12 p.m. until 10 p.m. Friday-Saturday. Visit the restaurant’s Facebook page to learn more.
