I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
The Grand Canyon state is a wonderfully colorful place especially when the wildflowers start to emerge in the spring. Because of all the sunshine and the number of warm days, we get each year, the wildflower season can be pretty long. Starting in early spring with poppies, lupine, and desert marigold, the desert comes alive with colorful hues scattered around the landscape. Spring eventually turns into summer when other wildflowers like sunflowers and goldeneye start to bloom. And the Campbell Mesa Loop Trail is one place to take in views of summer wildflowers in Flagstaff, Arizona.
We are lucky to live in a state where wildflowers can bloom between early spring and late fall. While much of the state is covered in desert, the pops of color dotting the landscapes are always a welcome sight.
If you want to see summer wildflowers in Arizona, head to Walnut Canyon National Monument in Flagstaff. Here you can take the Campbell Mesa Loop Trail, a picturesque 5.5-mile hiking trail.
While there isn't much shade along the trail, it's best to hike early in the morning. Also, remember to bring plenty of water with you as well as snacks, sunscreen, and anything else you think you may need!
