Jerome – population: 444. Arizona’s most infamous ghost town might be harboring some of our darkest secrets, but there are plenty of other reasons to visit. Spirit Room is one them, and we aren’t the only ones who think so. According to Thrillist, it’s the best small-town bar in the entire state.

In its heyday, Jerome was the third-largest city in Arizona. Now, the former mining boomtown has a population of less than 500.

A ghost town in more ways than one, almost every building has its own tales from beyond the grave. Most notable is the Jerome Grand Hotel, which previously served as a hospital where over 9,000 people died.
All that haunted history has given the town a unique personality, with many businesses using it as inspiration for their theme.

Spirit Room and its upstairs neighbor, Hotel Connor, are two such places. Antiquated exteriors suggest that this building has a storied past, juxtaposing small-town charm and the eeriness of architecture frozen in time. It's nuances like this that give Jerome such a distinct character.

Listen to some tunes, sip a few drinks, and head upstairs to your room for the night - though it may or may not be restful, as Hotel Connor, which has been tragically engulfed by flames twice before, is now a supposed paranormal hotspot.
