One of the best scenic overlooks in Arizona offers vast, expansive mountain views with little to no effort required. All you have to do is park, walk up to the observation deck, and enjoy – no need to trudge your way up the towering peaks of the White Mountains!
The White Mountains of northeastern Arizona are home to some of the highest mountains in the state, but not everyone has the time or ability to summit them on foot. Luckily, there is another way to enjoy the same expansive views, and it only requires a fraction of the effort.
Located just off State Route 261, Point of the Mountain Overlook in Springerville is an observation site that offers some of the most breathtaking vistas you'll ever see. There is a spacious parking lot, making it the perfect place to pull over and stretch your legs.
A small trail leads up to a viewing platform that looks out over the vast and remote landscape. In all directions, towering mountains pierce the sky with their lofty peaks, ascending beyond the clouds and into the heavens above.
In addition to the observation deck, there is also a covered pavilion as well as several benches, providing ample opportunities for all visitors to enjoy the scenery in contemplative solitude.
You will also see several informational signs detailing various aspects of the landscape. For example, did you know the White Mountains region was once a hotbed of volcanic activity?
Along with the mountains, the lush greenery of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest adds another layer of beauty to the scene. Spend as long as you'd like admiring the views - after all, it's not like you have a grueling return hike ahead of you!
Open Google Maps to find out exactly where the Point of the Mountain Overlook is located. Also, please note that the road leading to the viewpoint is often closed during winter.
