The Medieval era was arguably one of the most fascinating periods in history. Castles, jousting, and beautiful, over-the-top clothing left a distinct legacy that conjures daydreams of what it must have been like to experience it firsthand. Fortunately, there’s an opportunity for Arizonans to do just that! The Arizona Renaissance Festival brings the Medieval Age to life in an incredibly realistic way, promising an unforgettable experience for the whole family.
Through March 31, 2019, you can travel back to in time at the Arizona Renaissance Festival. Open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., it offers nonstop entertainment for all who attend.
Jousting is by far the most popular event and is held three times daily at the King's Arena. Grab a soft pretzel and place your bets as the match unfolds.
There are 14 stages throughout the festival ground featuring different shows. Circus acts, comedians, hypnotists, and virtually everything in between keep spectators enthralled.
Adding to the realism are blacksmiths, glassblowers, woodcarvers, and other artisans that were a common fixture during the Dark Ages. Watch the talented workers show off their skills and purchase any unique wares that catch your eye.
Carnival attractions abound and the youthful whimsy will bring out the kid in everyone. Pictured below is Piccolo Pony, the world's single-largest rocking horse. Get ready to squeal like a toddler as it swings back-and-forth.
Don't leave without a few souvenirs in hand! Over 200 vendors sell all sorts of handmade items you simply can't find anywhere else. Check out these wooden coffee mugs - no two are alike!
Of course, we couldn't possibly feature this festival without talking about the food; from massive turkey legs to rich drinking chocolate, it’s tough to beat the tasty dishes and sweet treats offered at this event. Good thing Renaissance clothing is loose!
All the fun goes down at 12601 E. US Hwy. 60, Gold Canyon, AZ 85118. For more information, head to the Arizona Renaissance Festival website or Facebook page.
